Baltimore County's Commercial Revitalization Programs can help businesses in older commercial areas improve the appearance of their buildings, access low interest loans and receive tax credits for major improvements. The County has recently expanded the Essex Commercial Revitalization District to include businesses along Eastern Boulevard from the Back River Bridge to Martin Boulevard. Businesses in the commercial revitalization district are eligible for programs that are not offered countywide. Qualified businesses and property owners in the Essex Commercial Revitalization District are eligible for : Business Improvement Loans, Architectural Assistance and Tax Credits.

Recent accounts in the media have described the numerous unfortunate and heavy handed actions the European Union and its regulatory agents have leveled against American companies such as Microsoft, GE, Apple, Mastercard and many others. They stopped the merger of GE with Honeywell even though US regulators had approved it. They are forcing Apple and its iTunes software to be open sourced to European competitors and they will continue these types of assaults.
